David Raya Backs Team's Strength as Vital to Multiple Trophy Pursuit
The Spanish shot-stopper has declared that intense competition for starting positions is propelling Arsenal's outstanding form, with the keeper believing that the team's roster under Mikel Arteta is so extraordinary that they can challenge for several trophies this season.
Dominant Victories Showcase Arsenal's Prowess
Arsenal's recent 4-0 triumph over Atlético Madrid marked their six consecutive wins and tenth triumph in a dozen games. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this stage in the club's history—Arsenal have established a narrow advantage at the Premier League summit and a perfect record in the Champions League after three matches.
Squad Changes and Versatility Key to Achievements
Raya has featured in nearly every game, except for one Carabao Cup encounter, but Arteta has consistently rotated the lineup following heavy spending on recruits. When asked about chasing several pieces of silverware, he responded, "Yes, I believe so. The depth is amazing. We have numerous options who can perform in multiple roles."
Like in the Atlético match, a teammate was introduced as a forward and is capable of playing as a central midfielder or No 10. Such flexibility is what the boss has, and he's using it to our advantage. Things appear very, very good, and that depth is crucial for us.
Competition Drives Standards
The Spain international added, "This situation provides an extra level in training and matches because if you slack off, your place is at risk instantly. That fosters intense rivalry in training and during matches, which is vitally significant, and the whole squad accepts it."
Strong Defense a Collective Effort
Arsenal have let in just a single goal from regular play this season, and Raya has had to deal with only one shot on target in their recent victories against Atlético, Fulham, and West Ham.
"Everyone contributes from the forwards to the goalkeeper," Raya explained. "Each player is committed, determined not to give anything away, and the goal is to cut out the ball prior to it crossing the midfield. If we intercept, it allows a fast break. This is essential for the entire team to understand this mentality, and opponents aren't creating many chances, which is ideal."
