The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.

The 27-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.

A Year of Dominance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.

This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.

Record-Breaking Statistics

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record £11m in prize money.

She received almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.

Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Other WTA Award Winners

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
