Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Adrian Dunbar are set to reprise their roles in the acclaimed police drama

The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.

An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."

The previous season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.

However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

The drama launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.

The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for further series.

However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
