Another scenario envisions a decline of 6C in temperatures following the shutdown of key Atlantic Ocean currents, which would massively disrupt food production and power requirements.

- Severe Heating: Planetary heating soaring past 4C by 2100 could occur if emissions cuts breaks down or if vicious cycles such as the tropical forests perishing release its huge repository of carbon. This would lead to extreme and prolonged heat domes and water shortages hitting the UK in summer.
- Ocean Circulation Failure: A critical sea current, the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (Amoc), is slowing down and becoming unstable due to ocean warming.
