Suspected Stalker Asked: 'Yet Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a voicemail message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told communication data and evidence recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What then? Is that not significant for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.
The panel was informed that by means of emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who gathered the evidence, told the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I will prove my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in that area in December 2024.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the time before the visit to Rothley, the county, in December 2024.
The court heard correspondence between the two defendants, in that autumn, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a message which expressed: "We're currently positioned near the McCanns' home with our headlights off like private investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
