The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
