The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
