‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Posts Emotional Homage to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the hit rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being held without bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” it read. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s notable filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
